Get on your electric bike and tour the energy sites around St. Veit an der Glan, taking in Lake Längsee and Lake Hörzendorfer See on your way. Starting from the multi-media exhibition “Erlebnis Energie (Energy Adventure)” at the St. Veit Fuchspalast, cycle to the energy sites of the biggest photovoltaic power plant in Austria. The two bathing lakes along the route are inviting spots for a well earned break.
This tour starts at the Fuchspalast in St. Veit an der Glan, with its highly recommended multi-media exhibition “Erlebnis Energie (Energy Adventure)”. You should also visit the Museum of St. Veit, and enjoy the atmosphere of the historic town centre. About 300m from the start, first turn left and then immediately right. This will take you to the Kölnhof energy site. Cycle along Kölnhofallee (avenue), past the railway station, to the railway underpass for cyclists and pedestrians to Taggenbrunner road. The route follows the Taggenbrunnerstraße road. You proceed along traffic-calmed residential streets and after crossing the Völkermarkter Straße road you reach a purpose-built cycle path, which takes you to the Hallenbad (Indoor Pool) energy site.
Now the route leaves behind the built-up area of St. Veit an der Glan and mostly runs parallel to the river Glan, across fields and meadows. From here you will be able to make out Sonnenpark Untermühlbach on the left-hand side. In Altglandorf, cross the main road and bear right, over a bridge spanning the river Glan. Once you have crossed the railway line Industriepark Blintendorf (industrial estate) spreads out to the right. There is a short stretch riding alongside the river Glan, then turn off to the right in the direction of Lake Hörzendorfer See, cycling along a very varied path. In Hörzendorf a marvellous view across the Glan valley awaits you!
After that the route follows the main road and before long you reach St. Veit Stadium. At this energy site there are large solar installations right inside the stadium grounds. Immediately after crossing the river Glan turn right and follow the R5 “Glanradweg” cycle path. The route passes the energy site at what was formerly the waste disposal facility. After a short way along the R5 cycle path turn left into Schießstattallee. At the end of the road the route takes you to the right back in the direction of city centre of St. Veit. Some may prefer to cover the last stretch of the tour on foot, from Oktoberplatz square, through the historic town centre and back to the Fuchspalast.
